My
name is Eddie Kowalski, and I am a computer operator in the Harbor Master's
office. It is my job to make sure that the Harbor Master is apprised of
every aspect of ship movement on our waterways. Since so much is going on,
at any particular time, it is essential that we have all the data we need pumped
into the system and retrievable at a moment's notice. I sit at a large console,
and monitor many screens of informaton, then file an update through to the
HM. I am part of his essential information system, therefore I am
Management Information. The HM does not have the time to monitor screens,
only time to periodically review the date I have correlated and sent through to
him. I am in my fifth year of this activity, and I feel, many times, like
an air traffic controller who deals in boats and ships. I am pleased to be
your information person for the electronics and computer aspects of SI.
At this time, I would like to introduce you to our favorite two electronic devices on SI, namely, those two cranky persons who have hosted our morning TV show, "Good Morning, Shoppolis Islands" for the past ten years, Ben Silver and Ira Gold, better known to us and the "metal twins."
