Shoppolis Islands Information

Peter and Jan Kelly of Tubular

Hi.  This is Peter of Peter and Jan from Tubular.  I am dressed as a woman to show you how much fun we have in our Sadie Hawkins Dances where the girl has to get the guy.  This is how I avoid being dragged out on the dance floor, and I can stay with Jan, my wife and dance partner.  Usually, she gives me away before the night is out but only for a price.  The last time she gave me away for $250 which was given to the Tooley Fund Drive for Cancer Research.  I can normally remain in disguise for an hour or so, before I am sold to the highest bidder.  Last Saturday, I spent the next two hours with one our renowned ship captains, Captain Mary Shock of the yacht, Ortega.

Shoppolis Islands has a number of nightclubs, casinos and other high-level businesses in the same vocation or related vocations.  This means that we encourage our own citizens, as well as those who visit, to participate in dancing, consuming drinks of all types, eating foods, and gambling.  In order to maintain order, SI, in complete accord with our business owners and patrons, has created a set of rules and regulations that encourage the use of, rather than take advantage of, the serious fun side of our world.  An example lies with the enforcement of order in each establishment.  South Beach, known for its hotels, nightclubs and casinos, began taking control by unifying all the "bouncers" into one organization.  This standardization of all practices and training into one unit, was easier to manage since each part of the organization had its own officers.  All physical contact practices were sanctioned by the organizations representing those practices, such as, many of the marvelous martial arts groups.

Hi.  This is Jan, shown on deck.  I'll take it from here.  Consultants from other gambling cities and countries were brought in to inform us of how they addressed each situation.  This advanced the vocations even more, because many of the SI rules and regulations are common with these other cities and countries.  We are quite proud of this, since a number of people who are known for their prowess, come to SI to beat the bank.  Of particular instance is our yearly pool, poker and bowling contests.  It is well-known that SI has the "nicest" enforcement people in the world, but it is also known that their influence is far greater than in most areas of the world.  You can be banned from SI if that individual turns your name into the organization and, in turn, to the Executive Staff.  As a consequence, SI also has some of the nicest patrons in the world, of which we are exceedingly proud and pleased.

There is always time off for good behavior at Campanello's in South Beach

The Magnificent Fellows & Gals Who Performed and Built the Lindy Hop

The Lindy Hop was an extraordinary dance with black-slave roots that spoke of a rich heritage that originated on the African continent and took the world by storm. The Harlem-based dance was already in existence in many forms, perhaps as early as the Civil War, but it did not have the name Lindy Hop until Charles Lindburgh took a "hop" over to France in the Spirit of St. Louis. Once the dance had a name, in the 1920s, it was modified with "air" moves where the participants left the floor for one loop, hop or another. The dance eventually evolved into different branches of dance including the Jitterbug.  These acrobatics were primarily for contests, championships and Hollywood, but they were done by most who danced this energetic musical extravaganza (in somewhat subdued versions) at parties and nightclubs. The following is a list of some of the original participants and choreographers who made the Lindy Hop what it was then, and what it is now. It is with great pleasure and pride that we provide these names to you.  Our thanks to Robert and Kelsey Franklin for their continued work in their SI dance studio and for the information on the Lindy Hop.
