Shoppolis Islands Aspect

My name is Doctor Bill Shrader, and my job is to bring you the aspects of family and personal involvement on SI.  Shoppolis Islands medical community comprises experts of all types with affiliations and other bonds outside SI.  Our experts evaluate the mental, physical, psychological and social condition of our people periodically, and the results are interesting, particular in the realm of confidence and security.  The results of these assessments have varied over the years and are closely associated with conditions elsewhere in the world.  When isolated to SI, results show that the average SI person is relatively well-adjusted, confident, reasonably secure and finds life positive.  Some are negative.

The average SI person who has lived on SI all his/her life scores the highest in long-term security and confidence.  Those who have lived in the community of SI under five years do not score as high.  Those who have come to SI and lived for more than twenty-five years score higher than those at five, but no person who has come to SI scores as high as those who have not experienced the rest of the world first-hand.  Those who spend an appreciable amount of time off the islands, i.e., studying abroad, return at a lower rate of confidence and security.  Those whose confidence level and security levels jump upward and off the charts are those who have experienced traumatic off-island events, have recovered from them, and have convinced themselves that life on SI is the most-probable place to live happily.

One of the more interesting aspects of SI strategy, when considering the level of security in our citizens, is where our most-intense research and development takes place.  One would think this would happen under a department in social services or other "human" organizations, but on SI, this is not the case.  Threats of any kind are considered under our Defense Department.  The reason for this is the mind set required to address situations that are social, commercial and industrial, not necessarily political or military.  To SI scientists, a threat is a threat regardless of its source.

There are two scientists of note who are integrally involved in subtle threats, and they are twins.  The only department with two people placed in the same position, is the Department of Defense Research and Development Lab.  Doctor Saydie Himmelmann Proust, married to DuPries Proust, and Doctor Horst Himmelmann, married to Doctor Lyla Chance, are twins.  Now, in their fifties, the two, who have never been more than a few miles from each other, hold the same Chairmanship position in the DODRDL.  Since the department is not political and is not looking for people or organizations to "blame," both Himmelmanns assess threat to SI citizens around the world in a manner in keeping with pure research based on probabilities and possibilities rather than firm fact.  The Lab deals in hypothetical situations known as "could-be's."  The objective is not to prove that these threats exist, but that they could exist already or could become fact in the future.  This visionary viewpoint has allowed SI citizens to not only deal with the realities of today, and the consequences of the past, but to know what to look for or expect in the future.  Subjects (issues) that have recently been researched include:

A number of recent suggestions for consideration have resulted and are published occasionally for SI citizens.  The following have been accepted as "responsible guidelines" for SI citizens regardless of where they are in the world including SI.

It is interesting to note that around the world, and on SI, these voluntary guidelines adopted by SI citizens, are called "Esseyes" and have become guidelines and even laws in some countries and societies.

List of Human Needs (not necessarily wants)

List of Human Needs (not necessarily wants)

Dr. Grace Pretoosi of Trio Islands has given us something to think about with her list below.  It has what she thinks are the majority of human needs, not necessarily what humans want.  Once they realize what they need, they often add some of the to their list of wants.  Values like responsibility often evade the typical human until he/she realizes that the satisfaction that comes from it offsets many negatives.  It is quite nice to be responsible even if that responsibility is negative.  These tenets are hard to understand, but they can be felt severely when one has a need or a want and it can't be fulfilled.  Then, it is time to act and find a way to acquire what fulfills the need or want.  Dr. Pretoosi is not only a doctor of psychiatry and psychology, she also holds clinics that provide ways to find what you need, particularly through other humans.
