The First Wedding, May 18, 1784

The first marriage to actually take place on the soil of Shoppolis Islands was an unlikely love affair between two very young members of the SI party, namely, the sixteen year old daughter of Forest and Linn Day, Shasta, one of twin sisters, to the seventeen year old son of Brent and Neah Bradford, Nigel.  Both Nigel and Shasta were married by Captain Shopp after the community built them a small shelter at the edge of the bay.  The site of that modest lean-to is currently occupied by the remains of the anchor of the Prize Mary and a length of chain.  From this union came the eventual birth of Margaret Day Benson, who after marrying Franklin Crown of NavyShips in 1948, became Executive Director of the Executive Staff from 1964 to 1984.  Her service ended after an unfortunate fall in the Spring of 1984, some 200 years after her ancestors put foot on SI.
